Custom Orthotics - The Process
Assessment
The first step in the orthotic therapy process is a detailed
biomechanical examination. Through physical examination, gait analysis, footwear
evaluation, and review of your injury history, a more thorough understanding of
the nature and cause of your problem is gained.
Casting
Over 30 measurements of joint alignment and motion are taken
from the hip to the foot. Then plaster molds of the feet are made to capture the
contours and angular relationships of the bones and joints in their “neutral”
positions.
Manufacturing
Our orthotics are made by vacuum forming and shaping heat
moldable materials onto 3-dimensional positive casts of your feet. We use a
variety of materials with a wide range of support and cushioning properties.
These include rigid and semi-rigid thermoplastics as well as low, medium, and
high density foams.
Fitting & Follow-Up
When the devices are dispensed, the length, fit, and function
of your orthotics are carefully evaluated. Instructions for wear and information
about the adjustment process are given. Then, a follow-up program is initiated
to monitor your progress and, if necessary, fine-tune the devices to your feet. |
